McGwire Leads in BB Apparel Sales

NEW YORK (AP) - Home run king Mark McGwire also is the king of sports apparel sales among big league players.

The St. Louis Cardinals first baseman tops major leaguers in the sale of Pro Player merchandise, with 20 percent of the market. That's far ahead of Boston Red Sox shortstop Nomar Garciaparra, who commands 12 percent.

Right behind Garciaparra, with 11 percent, are Seattle's Ken Griffey Jr. and Sammy Sosa of the Chicago Cubs. At 7 percent is Derek Jeter, of the New York Yankees, followed by Boston's Pedro Martinez, Atlanta's Chipper Jones, Yankees teammates Roger Clemens and Bernie Williams, and Mike Piazza of the Mets.
